Nov 30th 2012, 21:54

When University of Maryland President Wallace D. Loh announced on Nov. 19 that Maryland was leaving the ACC after 59 years for the Big Ten, he won over many dissenters with a promise.

Four months after Maryland discontinued seven varsity sports to help offset the athletic department's multimillion-dollar deficit, Loh said he was "absolutely committed to begin the process, to reinstate some of the teams [Maryland] had to terminate."

Christian Garcia, who the Nationals are eyeing as a starter next season, on his offseason
Nov 30th 2012, 21:39

In order to add Gio Gonzalez, who blossomed into a Cy Young finalist, and Denard Span, the leadoff hitter they long yearned for, the Nationals traded away many of their top pitching prospects in the top rungs of their minor league system. Their top levels of the minors now seem somewhat barren in terms of major league-ready starters; the promising young arms are lower in the system, ready in two years or so.

RGIII has Tom Cruise's number in his phone
Nov 30th 2012, 16:33

The well of intriguing Robert Griffin III trivia will probably run dry at some point, but we haven't reached that sad ending yet.

Until Dan Hellie sat down for a jovial interview with the quarterback this week, for example, I didn't know that Griffin recently read "The Art of War," owns more than 100 pairs of socks, and would take Durant over LeBron, because the former is "from here," as Griffin put it. "And Durant's also a Redskins fan," he added.

Eli Manning is back, in time for Redskins-Giants Monday Night Football matchup
Nov 30th 2012, 16:23

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Sometimes a fist pump is just a fist pump. Other times it seems like something more. New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning was grooving last Sunday night when he found Rueben Randle for a 16-yard touchdown. It was one throw – one perfect throw to the back of the end zone – but Manning showed in that pass that his arm was strong, his accuracy faultless. Just like that, worries about Manning, and the Giants, went quiet.

Nov 30th 2012, 15:32

"RGIII and Garcon -- last two off of practice field by about 10 minutes," CSN Washington's Rich Tandler noted on Thursday.

Which immediately made me think of an interview Garcon did with SiriusXM NFL Radio earlier in the week. Garcon's former GM, Bill Polian, asked the wide receiver to compare playing with Robert Griffin III to his days in Indianapolis with Peyton Manning.

During his once-a-week presser at Redskins Park, Robert Griffin III gets asked a lot of questions. Most of them are football-related, but thanks to the moratorium on asking the rookie questions outside of team-approved interviews, sometimes reporters have to use the weekly opportunity to ask their non-football questions.
