| Virginia football hires Tom O'Brien, Jon Tenuta to complete staff Jan 4th 2013, 01:03 Tasked with hiring four new assistant coaches this offseason, Virginia has turned to some familiar faces to complete Coach Mike London's overhauled staff. The school announced Thursday that former North Carolina State Coach Tom O'Brien has been named Virginia's new associate head coach for offense and tight ends coach. O'Brien, an assistant under former Virginia Coach George Welsh from 1982-1996, hired London as a defensive line coach at Boston College in 1997 and the two worked together for four seasons. We all know the classic NFL prototype: a tall, briefcase-carrying guy whose good mind and strong arm are accompanied by that faint-praising word "mobility." In Griffin, Wilson and Luck, we're seeing an entirely new balance of the qualities that make a great quarterback. They are the crest of a revolutionary wave that has been forming for some time. With their unprecedented blend of brain, body, leadership and work ethic, Griffin, Wilson and Luck are redefining what we mean by the phrase "the whole package." Like, if I made weekly picks for The Washington Post, I would probably be called an "expert," despite the fact that, two short months ago, I argued it was more likely that the Wizards would make the playoffs this season than the Redskins. On a Thursday afternoon teleconference, Cavaliers Coach Tony Bennett said it was "hard to say" whether the senior would be healthy enough to face the Tar Heels. Evans has begun individual workouts again, but has yet to practice with the team since tweaking a right foot injury last month in a win over Tennessee. The future reporter went to Officer Candidate School, served on two ships in the Pacific fleet and "chased Russian submarines around the Indian Ocean during the Cold War," according to an interview he did with ESPN public relations. United is finalizing paperwork to acquire 20-year-old forward Rafael on a one-year loan from Brazilian club EC Bahia, which on Thursday announced an agreement had been reached. United officials did not want to comment, but sources familiar with the talks said the deal is in the late stages and should be completed by next week. At 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, he has above-average size for a defensive back and plays with a physical style. His long arms and strength come in handy on press coverage; he jams defenders at the line and works to disrupt them. Your kids are singing it. Your dogs are howling it. Even your birds are whistling it. So it seemed appropriate to compile a few of the best renditions to hit the web since Sunday. Lynch sets the pace for the Seahawks offense, in the same way that the Redskins set up their own play-action passing attack with Alfred Morris. At 5-foot-11, 215 pounds, Lynch has both size and speed, which makes him hard to stop. Mayor Vincent Gray made a bet involving a sporting contest and a flag outside the Wilson Building? It didn't work out so well. "I look forward to the citizens of the City of St. Louis getting a lesson not only on the baseball diamond when the Nats take the series, but also in the uniquely unjust situation in which the District's 618,000-plus residents find ourselves — denied voting representation in Congress and ultimate authority over our own budget and affairs — when our flag flies over Market Street in downtown St. Louis!" Gray said in a release, prior to Nats-Cardinals. Read full article >> | |
