Duff Goldman salutes military with inaugural cake
Jan 20th 2013, 21:39

At this point in Duff Goldman's career — after opening bakeries on two coasts, creating a sugary replica of the GE Building for the 100th episode of "30 Rock," and engineering a 61-pound cupcake to try to set a Guinness world record — you wouldn't think anything could rattle the founder of Baltimore's Charm City Cakes. But Goldman's assignment to design President Obama's inauguration cake for the Commander-in-Chief's Ball on Monday seems to have stirred his batter.

On U Street, more like New Year's than a new era
Jan 20th 2013, 17:48

Inauguration? What inauguration? Saturday night on U Street brought a mood that was closer to a New Year's Eve than the jubilant, celebratory Obama love-in of four years ago. I saw a handful of people wearing Obama buttons and ski hats, plus some guys on the sidewalk selling reusable bags bearing the likenesses of the president and first lady, but everything was largely apolitical.

Notes from Saturday's inauguration parties
Jan 20th 2013, 15:13

This post has been updated.
