Jan 21st 2013, 00:35

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – As Therence Mayimba powered to the basket for a layup and foul to start the fourth quarter on Sunday afternoon, it appeared Montrose Christian had nationally ranked St. Benedict's Prep (NJ) right where it wanted. A 6-0 run had whittled the Mustangs' deficit to seven points and St. Benedict's wealth of offensive talent appeared to be wearing down.

London Fletcher, Ryan Kerrigan will make Pro Bowl appearances
Jan 21st 2013, 00:21

Redskins linebacker London Fletcher will play in his fourth Pro Bowl and outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan will make his first Pro Bowl appearance.

Fletcher and Kerrigan were selected as alternates for the NFC team. With the San Francisco 49ers' victory over the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship game Sunday, San Francisco linebackers Patrick Willis and Aldon Smith, who were original selections, became ineligible for the Pro Bowl because they will be preparing for the Super Bowl. That created openings for Fletcher and Kerrigan.

Jan 21st 2013, 00:05

If ever a coach needed a timeout, it was Jim Harbaugh.

His epic wigout in a chair facing the corner merited at least 10 minutes, but, hey, the coach's San Francisco 49ers are headed to the Super Bowl and there was no harm, no foul from his freakout -- only epic GIFs.

John Wall is giving immediate boost to Washington Wizards upon return from injury
Jan 21st 2013, 00:00

LOS ANGELES — A bit of glitz has returned to the Washington Wizards: John Wall whirling the ball around his waist and flipping an underhand pass to Nene for a layup in Sacramento; saving a victory in Denver by rejecting a Ty Lawson layup and wildly swinging his fist in celebration; and soaring high to catch an alley-oop lob from Jordan Crawford and swinging on the rim after throwing down the two-handed jam in Los Angeles.

ATLANTA — At one end of the Georgia Dome, there was music. San Francisco 49ers players celebrated, although quarterback Colin Kaepernick was nowhere in sight. His locker was the picture of quiet in a scene of pandemonium. It was unlikely, but then again, the same could be said of Kaepernick's rise.

Joel Ward records first multi-goal game as a Capital
Jan 20th 2013, 16:02

In a conversation with reporters during training camp, Capitals winger Joel Ward said all he wanted was an opportunity to show that he could make a difference, at even strength and on special teams.

Coach Adam Oates gave him that chance by adding him to the second power-play unit and encouraging him to crash the net. That's exactly what Ward did Saturday night. He recorded a pair of goals by driving to the net to lead the Capitals and serve as the bright spot in the 6-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
