Massachusetts crime lab chemist charged with evidence tampering

CONWAY, Mass (Reuters) - A chemist at a western Massachusetts drug laboratory has been charged with tampering with drug evidence, the second such allegation at a crime lab in the state in recent months, authorities said on Sunday. Sonja Farak, 35, was arrested late Saturday by state police and charged with two counts of tampering with evidence and two counts of drug possession, authorities said. "We allege that this chemist tampered with evidence, placing the integrity of that evidence in question," Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said in a statement. ...

U.S. Senator Schumer addresses the second session of the Democratic National Convention in CharlotteWASHINGTON (Reuters) - A senior lawmaker said on Sunday that he and fellow Senate Democrats, for the first time more than in three years, intend to meet Republican demands to finally pass a U.S. budget. Senator Charles Schumer, the chamber's No. 3 Democrat, said, however, that the spending plan will include proposed new revenue despite Republican warnings that they won't go along with more any tax hikes.
