D.C. area forecast: Cold inauguration weather with chance of snow showers, then turning truly frigid

After a couple lovely days of bright sun and yesterday's welcome warmup into the mid-50s, today's cold front is the first step toward this week's dramatic cool down. It's a gradual process, so Inauguration Day shapes up as seasonably cold with a chance of snow showers or flurries, before the real cold strikes Tuesday and Wednesday. Get ready for gusty winds and wind chills near zero.

Cold weather arriving Monday

Preparing for day-long activity Monday may be a challenge, National Weather Service forecasters warned Saturday night, saying temperatures will drop in the afternoon or evening, and it could snow.

Late Monday morning "will seem balmy" compared to "later in the afternoon/evening," forecasters in the local weather service office wrote in a discussion of their forecast.

Kids' Inaugural has star power that gets youths moving at concert

This weekend is supposed to be more demure, more discreet than four years ago, but — whisper voice — don't tell the children!

One of the inaugural weekend's first spasms of star power flared Saturday night at the Kids' Inaugural, a fizzy, screamy pop concert at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center featuring Katy Perry, Usher, Mindless Behavior, Far East Movement and cast members from the regularly televised sing-along "Glee."

D.C. records its third homicide of year

District police said a man was fatally shot early Saturday in the 2700 block of Georgia Avenue NW.

Police said the man, who had been shot multiple times, was found on the sidewalk about 2:30 a.m. and was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. It marked the third homicide in the District this year.
