In which our fearless reporters compete to attend the most inaugural galas, completing ridiculous and dignity-defying feats along the way. Read the rules of the game.

7:15 p.m. Saturday. DAN: In the locker room of the Post's gym, I don my fauxedo and plan a shoot-the-moon strategy. I will hit the two outlying balls first: the Bluegrass Ball up in Woodley Park and then Texas's Black Tie & Boots Ball down at National Harbor. No one has ever attempted such a ball-related feat. My photographer, Jonathan Newton, and I hop on the Red Line at Farragut North at 7:25.

Inauguration parties: 2013 is the year of the brunch

The inaugural cocktail party is so. . . 2009. This time, the celebration du jour is brunch.

"There's so much competition at night," said Susan Molinari, who heads Google's D.C. office. Four years ago, Google threw a swanky inauguration-night party; this year it was brunch at the National Portrait Gallery with ELLE magazine and Center for American Progress. "People come in from all over the country to go to these balls," Molinari said. "It seemed nice to have something for them in the middle of the day."

Duff Goldman salutes military with inaugural cake

At this point in Duff Goldman's career — after opening bakeries on two coasts, creating a sugary replica of the GE Building for the 100th episode of "30 Rock," and engineering a 61-pound cupcake to try to set a Guinness world record — you wouldn't think anything could rattle the founder of Baltimore's Charm City Cakes. But Goldman's assignment to design President Obama's inauguration cake for the Commander-in-Chief's Ball on Monday seems to have stirred his batter.
