Jan 16th 2013, 23:50

• Being blatantly ogled on national TV has its upside. Katherine Webb, the girlfriend of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron who stole the show at the BCS game when ESPN's Brent Musburger gushed endlessly over her beauty, has parlayed her instafame into a paying gig: She'll work as "Inside Edition" on-camera Super Bowl correspondent, the show announced Wednesday. Meanwhile, Musburger told a TMZ cameraman he didn't see anything inappropriate about his romantic soliloquy, though ESPN apologized for it: "Individuals say what individuals say, and corporations do what corporations do."

A hasty promise; name change after marriage
Jan 16th 2013, 22:42

Adapted from a recent online discussion.

Hi, Carolyn:

A lot of backstory and angst go along with this story, but I'll keep it short:

I'm in my 20s, and I got in a car accident with my dad and stepmom's car. I did not borrow the car for fun; I was visiting them from my home a few hours away and needed to pick up prescriptions.

Jan 16th 2013, 21:30

"You can speculate I suppose. But sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

Anthony Weiner when asked by Crain's New York Business why, if not actually mulling a political comeback — such as, say, running for NYC mayor this year — he recently reserved the Internet address "AnthonyWeiner2013.com." Nice! Someone's been brushing up on his Freud.

Inauguration 2013: Test your presidential trivia knowledge
Jan 16th 2013, 20:02

How much do you know know about the presidents? Do you know how many there have been? Can you name them? In order? Backward? If you answered "yes" to those questions, maybe you won't find "The Smithsonian Book of Presidential Trivia" fascinating. But if you're stumped by whether it was Millard Fillmore or Franklin Pierce who was our 13th president, then we think you'll love the book, which is full of fascinating information — not just about the presidents who have lived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the address of the White House, but also their wives, children — and even their pets! (For example, Laddy Boy, an Airedale terrier who was President Warren G. Harding's dog, was even more famous in his day than the Obamas' Portuguese water dog Bo is today.)

Jan 16th 2013, 19:47

Have you ever wondered about the power of words? Short words, long words, easy words, ones that are hard to spell: No matter the shape, words help express feelings, describe places, inform or change someone's mind. Words helped reelect President Barack Obama. And as he gives his inaugural address to the nation Monday, you might hear such words as "oath," "peace," "crisis," "challenge" and "hope."

Inauguration 2013: Fun facts and figures
Jan 16th 2013, 19:43

Amaze your parents, siblings and friends with these facts about the history of swearing in presidents.

A really big word: "Inauguration," pronounced in-aw-gyu-RAY-shun, is a five-syllable word, and we don't usually use five-syllable words in KidsPost. It comes from Latin and means "to be installed under good omens or signs." We think that's pretty cool.

Jan 16th 2013, 19:24

John Corbett with a heavy new beard — looking very Jeff-Bridges-in-"Crazy Heart," in fact — at the Hamilton Tuesday night. Jan 16th 2013, 18:50

Confession: The first time I entered Shawn Evans's immaculate S Street NW home, I froze, wide-eyed in the posh foyer. Cursing myself for bringing in coffee, I felt like a bull in a china shop, or maybe a Neiman Marcus, and offered to remove my boots.

Jan 16th 2013, 16:50

Seduction season is upon us, as seed catalogues roll off the presses and tomatoes — the gardener's obsession — bounce off the pages and into our dreams.

"Step right up, folks," Burpee's cover seems to say, luring you into the sideshow of the biggest and the best. On that cover, the "world's largest sauce tomato," called SuperSauce, is coming at you like a fast pitch. Just one fruit, we're told, shown actual size and weighing two pounds, will fill a sauce jar. Saucemakers will swoon.
