Kennedy Center Honors after-party: Led Zeppelin charms the room, Letterman leaves early

You hear that noise coming from the Kennedy Center Sunday night? It was the final aftershock of the Baby Boom, whacking the staid arts temple on the Potomac like a hammer of the gods.

Led Zeppelin , it turns out, still has the ability to shock. As Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters ripped into the sexually-charged "Black Dog" — guitars wailing, strobes flashing, honey dripping — we saw several elderly patrons shrink towards the exits. Clearly, no one had warned them: Hard rock had finally come to the Kennedy Center Honors. (*see also: Why Grohl played drums for Zep tribute)

French archaeologists have uncovered a rare, near-comp­lete skeleton of a mammoth in the countryside near Paris. Near the skeleton were tiny pieces of tools that suggest that prehistoric hunters might have had the mammoth for lunch!

'Tis the season to write letters to Santa . . . and President Obama

This month, kids have a chance to write to some pretty famous people: Santa Claus and President Barack Obama.

Macy's and the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to sick kids, has teamed up to have kids who are writing to Santa also help kids in need. Between now and December 24, kids can write to Santa and put their stamped letter, addressed to Santa at the North Pole, in the special Santa Mail letterbox at any Macy's store. Macy's will make sure the letters get delivered, and for every letter received, the store will donate $1 to Make-a-Wish.
