Dec 29th 2012, 01:01

For a record price that most NFL executives would gladly pay in retrospect, the Redskins' signing of quarterback Robert Griffin III has rehabilitated the rash-spending reputation of owner Daniel Snyder, revitalized a long-suffering fan base and reversed the fortunes of Coach Mike Shanahan, whose teams stumbled to an 11-21 record his first two seasons in Washington.

Dec 29th 2012, 00:59

Avery Johnson firing is another example of high expectations, low patience
Dec 29th 2012, 00:23

Doc Rivers experienced some lean years in Boston, clashed with his star player and exhausted countless hours preparing underdeveloped talent to get thrashed on a nightly basis.

Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge stayed with him, turned aside catcalls for Rivers's ouster, and finally gave his coach a championship contender when he traded for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in the summer of 2007. Rivers quickly proved his worth as a coach, mended a once-testy relationship with Paul Pierce and won a championship in one dramatic turnaround season that brought banner No. 17 to the NBA's most storied franchise.

Dec 28th 2012, 23:09

For the first time in five games, the Wizards will put the same starting lineup on the floor for consecutive contests as they prepare to host the Orlando Magic at Verizon Center.

Coach Randy Wittman has been shuffling players in and out ever since the last meeting with Orlando, where he benched Chris Singleton and started Earl Barron and started Shaun Livingston in place of the injured Bradley Beal and the Wizards lost 90-83. The Wizards have since cut Barron and Livingston and signed Garrett Temple and Shelvin Mack, who start at point guard for the second game in a row.

Redskins-Cowboys: Finally, for Washington fans, a real "Dallas Week"
Dec 28th 2012, 19:32

Finally, a real "Dallas week" — and I missed it! Well, most of it. Stupid vacation!

I've wanted to experience a real Dallas week for years. When I came to D.C. in 1993 I heard tales of Dallas week but they seldom lived up to the hype. There was a feeling for many years — as recently as the start of this season — that while Redskins fans talk about "Dallas week," Cowboys fans do not talk about "Redskin week," unless there's a seven-day sale on taters at the Piggly-Wiggly.

Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys owner, remains team's dominant figure
Dec 28th 2012, 16:39

The Dallas Cowboys' home locker room after a game is suffused by a bright halo of light from a wall of TV cameras encircling the central figure in the room. It's not Tony Romo, or DeMarcus Ware, or some other critical player bathed in all that false sun, but owner Jerry Jones, who beats his own team to the microphones just minutes after it comes off the field. Which is when it becomes apparent that the largest column-free structure in the world is not Cowboys Stadium, but rather the self-sustaining ego of the man who built it.
