| Wizards host wounded soldiers at practice Dec 3rd 2012, 23:54 On the court, Wizards assistant Sam Cassell talks enough trash to keep a whole team of sanitation workers busy. But when Cassell invited Army Sgt. Chris Powell to the main court at Verizon Center on Monday, he had something in mind other than belittling his opponent: Cassell wanted to help Powell with his shooting stroke. Cassell watched Powell miss a few jumpers, then offered some simple advice to improve his accuracy. Read full article >> | | D.C. United makes several roster decisions Dec 3rd 2012, 22:15 D.C. The Boston Red Sox -- a team that reached out to free agent LaRoche, was in desperate need of a first baseman and seemed like a potential lure -- agreed to terms with free agent catcher-first baseman Mike Napoli to a three-year deal, according to multiple reports. And though the Red Sox have a wealth of catchers, the expectation is that Napoli will also likely play first base, ruling out LaRoche as an option there. Griffin, LaVar argued, was plenty capable either on the move or with the ball in his throwing arm. But the more designed runs Griffin executed, LaVar further argued, the less time he could spend learning to be a premiere pocket passer, which is what his long-term career would depend on. Dec 3rd 2012, 16:30 Which version of Pierre Garcon will be on display Monday night when the Washington Redskins face the New York Giants at FedEx Field? The version that looked every bit like the Redskins' top wide receiver during their Thanksgiving triumph in Dallas, with a brilliant play on a 59-yard touchdown catch on his way to a solid all-around performance? Or the diminished version that had only five receiving yards four days earlier in a victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in his return to the lineup after missing four games because of a torn ligament near the second toe of his right foot? Some Wizards supporters have concentrated on the decision to bring Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor to D.C., arguing that these veterans block the progress of youngsters at the same positions without offering much in the way of production. Others have complained about the deal for Nene, arguing that his problems with injuries are well-documented. A-Rod will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left hip, the team announced. Doctors will repair a torn labrum and bone impingement as well as removing a cyst. Rodriguez, who had surgery on his right hip in 2009, is likely to have the procedure in January and is expected to be out 4-to-6 months, the team says. Despite struggling and being taken out for a pinch hitter in the playoffs this fall, A-Rod is not expected to retire. Rodriguez, 36, hit .272 with 18 homers in 122 games this year.
