Creator of 'Taxation Without Representation' plates finds vindication

As happy as city leaders are that the District's "Taxation Without Representation" plates will appear on the presidential limousine, Sarah Shapiro is happier.

Shapiro is the longtime Foggy Bottom resident who, back in 2000, first came up with the idea of putting the "Taxation Without Representation" message on D.C. license plates, thus creating hundreds of thousands of mobile billboards advertising the District's status across the nation.

Montgomery officials seek transportation funding ideas from Northern Virginia

Company founded by Tareq Salahi owes $34,000, Md.-based limo service claims

White House party crasher Tareq Salahi has his first controversy as a Virginia gubernatorial hopeful.

The owner of Maryland-based RMA Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation claims Blue Ridge Wine Way Tours, a company founded by Salahi, owes them $34,000 in unpaid limo bills. The vintner says he's no longer involved in Blue Ridge's operations and that this isn't his problem.

Va. Republicans block ultrasound repeal

RICHMOND — Senate Republicans on Thursday thwarted an effort by Democrats to repeal a law to require women to undergo an ultrasound before getting an abortion.

Republicans also rejected legislation that would have rolled back new regulations requiring abortion clinics to meet hospital-style building standards.

Yes, some patchy light mixed precipitation is possible this evening (rain, sleet and/or snow), but with temperatures above freezing, few problems are expected. Teen girl fights off attacker at Ft. Washington bus stop

A Fort Washington teenager fought off an attacker who grabbed her as she walked to a bus stop Wednesday morning, according to police, who are now searching for the man.

The assault happened near Lourdes and Hickory drives about 6:30 a.m.when a stranger walked up to the girl and wrestled her to the ground, according to Prince George's County police.

Deliberations begin in D.C. cop's murder trial

The fate of a married D.C. police officer charged with killing his mistress and their 11 month old daughter is now in the hands of twelve Prince George's County residents.

Jurors began deliberating in the case of Richmond Phillips, who is facing two first-degree murder charges and other related counts, at about 3:45 pm Thursday after prosecutors and defense attorneys made their final pitches in Prince George's County Circuit Court.

NBC Washington has a scary image of flames shooting out of the roof of Hank's on the Hill last night around 2 a.m. Firefighters were able to contain the flames, but Hank's will be closed for the next few days for repairs.
