The Fine Print: A question of what Tricare should cover
Dec 3rd 2012, 23:42

Who should pay for costly special treatment for autistic children in families of active and retired military service personnel?

Why people are so upset about Kim Kardashian's odd visit to Bahrain
Dec 3rd 2012, 20:26

About a month before Kim Kardashian flew to the Middle Eastern island nation of Bahrain this weekend, 28 of the country's medics and doctors were assembled before a courtroom. They had been charged after treating some of the protesters who have been rallying now for over a year, calling for democracy and for improved human rights. An ear, nose, and throat specialist named Nabeel Tammam, one of the defendants, raised his hand. The judge had just dismissed a defense attorney's claim that his clients had been tortured, and Tammam had something to say. "My name is Nabeel Tammam," he said when the judge acknowledged him, apparently mistaking him for a lawyer. "I am one of the medics, and I was tortured." The judge closed the hearing.

The growing divide between Israel and Europe
Dec 3rd 2012, 18:13

Late Sunday, Barak Ravid, the scoop-prone diplomatic correspondent for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, published an arresting, if qualified, story: the U.K. and France are considering recalling their ambassadors to Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had just approved construction of thousands of new Israeli settler homes in a sensitive area of the Palestinian West Bank known as E1, and the European powers had had enough. Ravid quoted a "senior European diplomat" as saying, "This time it won't just be a condemnation, there will be real action taken against Israel."

Becoming a Brit
Dec 3rd 2012, 13:30

LONDON -- My first lesson as a Briton: Never underestimate the enthusiasm of the British for wheeling out Paul McCartney during high-profile events.

Last week I became British after attending a citizenship ceremony in which iPod-wielding officials played "Love Me Do" and other Beatles hits that transported me back to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert and the Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony, both of which McCartney closed with a rousing finale.
