Wizards address back-court issues, sign previously waived Shelvin Mack

The Washington Wizards have decided to address their back court problems by signing a point guard who was cut in October for not being experienced enough to handle playmaking duties.

If that sounds confusing, imagine being Shelvin Mack late Saturday night, when the same organization that drafted 34th overall in 2011 and waived him 16 months later called and asked him to come back to run the show.

Despite their win, and the losses by the Cowboys and Giants, the Redskins didn't clinch a playoff berth on Sunday, because they entered the day needing the Giants, Vikings and Bears to all lose, and only New York did so.

Redskins safety DeJon Gomes suffered an MCL sprain in his left knee on the opening kickoff of the third quarter, and didn't return to action. Coach Mike Shanahan said that the team didn't know immediately after the game how severe the injury is, and that the second-year pro will be evaluated as the week progresses.

Cornerback DeAngelo Hall said he hopes the Redskins' regular season finale next Sunday at home against the Dallas Cowboys is moved to the night game on NBC.

Shelvin Mack is returning to the organization that drafted him 34th overall out of Butler in 2011 and waived him before the start of his second season in order to go with more seasoned veteran, Jannero Pargo.

But right tackle Tyler Polumbus will miss the game against the hosting Philadelphia Eagles a week after he suffered a concussion that knocked him out of Washington's game at Cleveland. Backup guard/tackle Maurice Hurt will start in his place.

Fox, NBC jockey for Redskins-Cowboys showdown

The Washington Redskins' regular-season finale against the Dallas Cowboys is still a week away, but there's a fairly spirited undercard featuring Fox and NBC going on right now.

Both networks are jockeying with the NFL over just which one will carry the game, according to the Dallas Morning News's Barry Horn. Fox, which airs NFC games, is still steamed that it lost the 2011 Week 17 game between the Cowboys and New York Giants to NBC's "Sunday Night Football," Horn writes. As much as NBC would love to have Robert Griffin III in prime time for the first time, the NFL does try to keep all its broadcast partners happy.
