Jordan Crawford out to prove he's more than a scorer
Dec 21st 2012, 01:25

Of all of the unexpected developments in a season gone awry for the Washington Wizards – from John Wall's continued absence because of a stress injury to his left knee, to Nene's continued role as a reserve a month after returning from plantar fasciitis – none is perhaps more astonishing than the team basing its offense on the scoring and playmaking ability of shooting guard turned point guard Jordan Crawford.

NHL lockout: Washington Capitals players getting antsy as games through Jan. 14 are canceled
Dec 21st 2012, 01:09

With an unexpected surplus of free time in recent months thanks to the NHL lockout, Jay Beagle has tried to keep himself busy.

In addition to his training schedule, the Washington Capitals forward works on his pickup truck, cooks dinner for his wife Ashley, brushes up on his tennis skills, hunts — he got an eight-point buck last week — and tackles improvement projects on the house he bought in Alexandria this summer. But when constantly in search of something to do, it's easy to get carried away.

Always something happening, good or bad, with DeAngelo Hall this season
Dec 21st 2012, 00:21

It has been, to say the least, an eventful season for DeAngelo Hall, a season in which something always seems to be swirling around the Washington Redskins cornerback.

He has had battles with referees and media members as well as with opposing wide receivers. He has been fined more than $65,000 by the NFL. He has been, at times, the focal point of fans' wrath over the missteps of a Redskins secondary that once seemed practically defenseless against opponents' quarterbacks and receivers.

Dec 20th 2012, 21:18

For NHLers who aren't playing during the lockout, taking part in week after week of training with no definitive end date required a different mental approach. But following the NHL's latest round of cancellations announced Thursday, which erased the schedule through Jan. 14, the winding road of labor negations will soon take its biggest turn yet.

Eagles offensive player to watch: QB Nick Foles
Dec 20th 2012, 21:05

How he beats you: The third-round pick out of Arizona has good size at 6-foot-6 and 243 pounds. He has good arm strength, and decent mobility, but still is very much learning the ropes in the NFL. Beating teams has been a challenge for Foles and his teammates. Foles made his first start against the Redskins in November, completing 21 of 46 passes for 204 yards and two interceptions. He was sacked four times. His team has lost three of the four starts he has made. But Foles is making gradual strides.

Jaworski picks Cowboys to win NFC East
Dec 20th 2012, 20:15

Weird as it is to type, the Redskins are pretty clearly the favorites to win the NFC East.

Odds from Bovada this week have Washington at 5-6 to win the division, followed by Dallas at 3-2 and the Giants at 9-2. (Bovada has the Skins at 1-2 to make the postseason, and 3-2 to miss the playoffs.) My pal Rufus Peabody, a professional sports bettor, calculates the Redskins with a 50.4 chance to win the division and a 67.1 percent chance to make the playoffs, via the Massey-Peabody rankings.

Gio Gonzalez on Michael Morse, Ross Detwiler weddings
Dec 20th 2012, 18:44

I don't know either man personally, but I think it's safe to say that Michael Morse and Ross Detwiler have established slightly different personas here in D.C. One, for example, is quiet and mild-mannered, rarely making headlines. The other hits pretend home runs, becomes Twitter friends with Scandinavian rockers and sprays beer into the stands.
