Dear Carolyn: I am a traditional person and believe couples should marry before living together. My son has a live-in girlfriend. How do I respect their choice without condoning it? A healthy 7 pounds, 11 ounces, his staff told reporters. His fifth child (including two from his first marriage) and their third together, after twins born in 2007. The news that the Oregon Democrat and his wife were expecting, at ages 63 and 51, came as a surprise ("Yes, it sounds incredible," he wrote in a note to staff last spring announcing her pregnancy), but it's not unheard of, even in the Senate: John and Elizabeth Edwards had the last of their children together in 2000, when she was 50.
