WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Supreme Court, responding to the havoc created by Hurricane Sandy, will not convene on Tuesday, spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said. The court, which convened on Monday despite the shutdown of most Washington federal government offices, will hear Tuesday's cases on Thursday, when no arguments were planned. Two key New York City tunnels closing; bridges open for now: governor

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said two key tunnels connecting Manhattan to New Jersey and Brooklyn would be closed later on Monday ahead of Hurricane Sandy. Cuomo said the Holland Tunnel, which opened in 1927 and remains one of the main connections between New Jersey and New York City, would close as a precaution at 2 p.m. (1800 GMT). The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, known locally as the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, will also shut down at the time. New York City bridges will remain open for now, he said at a news conference. BMW said automatic transmissions may not remain in "park" position due to a software problem on cars equipped with keyless ignition and the Comfort Access option. The cars are designed to automatically shift the transmission to park when the driver presses the Stop/Start button to shut off the engine. ...

At issue is a ruling against the U.S. energy company PPL Corp, which had taken a stake in Britain's South Western Electricity Plc, among the companies included in a UK privatization of 32 companies in the 1980s and 1990s.
