Back in business
Oct 31st 2012, 11:00

The District of Columbia, it's now clear, was spared the worst of Superstorm Sandy. You didn't have to be in a Hummer convoy with Mayor Vincent Gray to figure out that, despite some downed trees and sporadic power outages, things weren't so bad here. Wizards vs. Cavaliers: Depleted squad falls, 94-84, in season opener
Oct 31st 2012, 02:11

CLEVELAND — When the Washington Wizards ushered out a starting lineup of Bradley Beal, A.J. Price, Emeka Okafor, Trevor Ariza and Trevor Booker for Tuesday night's season opener at Quicken Loans Arena, they couldn't have sent a clearer message about how much they desire to move beyond a four-year period in franchise history when losing was synonymous with hijinks and seasons that ended with lottery trips.

"Sandy is getting stronger," the forecaster said.

A Pepco manager sighed.

It was Monday morning, and dozens of utility executives and employees were listening to the forecast. The meteorologist ticked off wind data, predicted rainfall totals, time frames and likely tracks, then said bluntly: "It's definitely a very bad situation."
