For Wizards' Bradley Beal, it's all in the family
Oct 29th 2012, 20:19

Even before his parents urged his two older brothers to live with him in Washington this season, Bradley Beal was determined to take his family with him on his journey through the NBA.

Beal sketched a design that he wanted etched on his right upper arm: four descending stars, with the letters B-E-A-L inside, and names of his four siblings — Brandon, Bruce, Byron and Bryon — to the right of the stars. The names of his parents, Bobby and Besta, arch above them all.

What's the most famous 'Sandy'-related story in D.C. sports history? It's not even close. And no, it wasn't Mike Shanahan doing his Monday press conference by phone this week because of the hurricane.

The famous incident came at the end of January 1985, and it involved John Riggins, a bunch of famous Washingtonians, and a Supreme Court justice.

Redskins at midseason: Hope for the future but many current needs
Oct 29th 2012, 17:51

The first half of the Washington Redskins' season showed clearly that the effort and resources the team poured into obtaining quarterback Robert Griffin III were well spent. Griffin has demonstrated in the first eight games of his rookie season that he is the player the Redskins hoped they were getting when they drafted him in April, one with transcendent skills, a centerpiece they can almost certainly build a championship team around.

Tony Romo doesn't blame boo-birds, but just whom should they boo?
Oct 29th 2012, 17:46

Tony Romo heard it — oh, boy, did he ever hear it — late Sunday afternoon when the Dallas Cowboys' rally fell short against the New York Giants in Cowboys Stadium.

Jerry Jones heard it, too, in spite of a mass email campaign the Cowboys had sent out, urging fans to bring a home-field advantage to the $1.2 billion JerryWorld. Romo and the Cowboys had fallen behind by 23 points before rallying and losing 29-24. Among the heartbreaks? Dez Bryant's hard-luck touchdown catch, on which he was out of bounds by inches.

London Fletcher should not have played Sunday
Oct 29th 2012, 17:06

I'm going to catch a lot of flack for this, but it needs to be said: London Fletcher should have been on the sidelines Sunday resting his body — either by choice or the decision of his coaches.

I apologize to anyone for writing this, the Redskins coaches' first responsibility is to make the best decision for the team — not one player.

Down to their fifth quarterback, Terps will need Stefon Diggs even more
Oct 29th 2012, 15:57

Wes Brown turned his head as the ball whizzed by, then stopped for a split second when Caleb Rowe's third-down pass firmly zipped into the arms of Stefon Diggs. He waited to make a move, surveying the landscape on the Alumni Stadium turf. Then, like a shot, Brown took off downfield, trying to catch his high school teammate, peeling back to make sure no other Boston College player got to him.

Five observations from the Redskins' loss to the Steelers
Oct 29th 2012, 15:52

The Washington Redskins suffered their most disheartening loss of the season, falling 27-12 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and dropped to 3-5 on the year.

A lot of warts were exposed in this loss – on both offense and defense. The Redskins scored a season-low 12 points and found the end zone only once. On defense, a once promising unit appears to be getting worse.

As I discovered via intense reporting on Sunday, the Redskins' defense hasn't been very good lately.

The Skins have now yielded at least 22 points in 10 straight games, dating to last season. They've averaged 29.4 points-against over those 10 games.
