South Dakota executes man who raped, murdered nine-year old girl

(Reuters) - South Dakota prison officials on Tuesday night executed a man convicted of the rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl he abducted from a Sioux Falls convenience store in 1990, a state corrections department spokesman said. Donald Moeller, 60, was pronounced dead at 10:24 p.m. local time, becoming the second South Dakota inmate put to death by lethal injection this month, but only the fourth executed by the state since 1913, the department said. ...

New York's JFK, Newark airports to open Wednesday; LaGuardia still closed

Kennedy International and Newark Liberty International airports, two of the three main flying hubs for the busy New York City area, will reopen on Wednesday morning with limited service, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said on Tuesday. LaGuardia Airport remains closed, the Port Authority said on its website. The three airports have all been closed due to Sandy, the massive storm that swept through the area on Monday. Rafferty and Richard Beasley, 53, were charged with murder in the deaths of the three men. Two men answered a social media ad for a $300-a-week job as a caretaker on a farm about 100 miles south of Cleveland. Trial opens for California boy who killed neo-Nazi father

RIVERSIDE, California (Reuters) - A boy accused of murdering his neo-Nazi father when he was 10 years old went on trial in California on Tuesday, with prosecutors portraying the child as violent and troubled and a defense lawyer saying he acted to protect his family. Both sides agree that Joseph Hall, now 12, shot his father, Jeffrey Hall, at near point-blank range on May 1, 2011. He is being tried in juvenile court and could be sent to a juvenile facility until age 23. ...
