With so much at stake, Redskins say they aren't taking lowly Eagles lightly
Dec 22nd 2012, 23:41

The Washington Redskins have spent more than a month playing their way to the brink of the playoffs. Much of that good work in their surprising turnaround could be undone in a blink if they misstep Sunday in Philadelphia and lose to a downtrodden Eagles team that has been reduced to playing for its dignity and a slightly more graceful exit for Coach Andy Reid.

Georgetown vs. American: Otto Porter Jr. leads Hoyas past Eagles, 65-48
Dec 22nd 2012, 21:06

Georgetown Coach John Thompson III wasn't pleased with the way his Hoyas started against crosstown foe American, surrendering a trio of early three-pointers. Washington Redskins' season turned around in two weeks
Dec 22nd 2012, 19:37

Mike Shanahan stepped behind a lectern beneath the stands at FedEx Field at 4:26 p.m. on Nov. 4, minutes after his Washington Redskins had lost their third straight game, 21-13, to the Carolina Panthers. He wore a long-sleeved white pullover, which set off the bright redness of his face. He fidgeted with the mike stand in front of him. He touched his nose then pursed his lips as the first question was asked: Where does the Redskins' season go from here? ¶ Shanahan shifted his gaze from the questioner's face to the wall in the back of the room, and his eyes began to drift without landing again as he spoke. His voice was hoarse. ¶ "When you lose a game like [this], now you're playing to see who, obviously, is going to be on your football team for years to come," Shanahan said, in comments that would be scrutinized, dissected, debated, criticized, defended and backed away from in the days and weeks that followed. ¶ "Now we've got a chance to evaluate players and see where we're at," he continued. "Obviously, we're not out of [the playoff race] statistically, but now we find out what type of character we've got, and how guys keep on fighting through the rest of the season." ¶ In a sense, this remarkable Redskins season can be separated into two parts: everything that occurred up to that moment, and everything that has occurred since. The parts are so incongruous as to defy the notion that they could have been produced by the same team.

Postgame notes: Terps bucked statistical trends against Stony Brook
Dec 22nd 2012, 18:25

>> Through 10 games this season, the Maryland basketball team had established itself as a pass-first bunch with a knack for cleaning up on rebounds and playing tough interior defense, but struggled to execute the half-court offense and make perimeter jumpers.

Terps land commitment from four-star DB Will Likely
Dec 22nd 2012, 17:25

There will come a time, Coach Randy Edsall said, when the Maryland football team no longer staffs four recruiters in Florida, when the Terrapins turn their undivided attention to more Big Ten-friendly territory, eschewing the south in favor of the Midwest.

Morning review: Terps offensive execution was pinpoint in first half
Dec 22nd 2012, 16:21

Even Coach Mark Turgeon had outdone himself here. Maryland's basketball coach entered a nine-day break fretting about his team's offensive execution, worrying that mental errors had begat turnovers, and the Terrapins would suffer in future games accordingly.
