Read full article >> Police: D.C. officer shoots robbery suspect Dec 25th 2012, 16:37 A police officer interrupted an armed robbery early Tuesday, chasing the gunman and shooting him several times during a standoff on a Southeast Washington street, according to a department spokesman. Police said the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Paul Smith of Southeast, was being treated under guard at an undisclosed hospital. He was charged with kidnapping, robbery while armed and felony assault on a police officer, according to police. The extent of his injuries was unclear. Read full article >> Two dead in Beltway crash in Chevy Chase Dec 25th 2012, 14:40 Two people were killed Monday night in a crash involving three vehicles on the outer loop of the Washington Beltway near Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, according to Maryland State Police. The victims who died — a 30-year-old woman and a 17-year-old male — were in a car whose driver lost control on a curve and slid across the highway, police said. The driver was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore in serious condition.
