D.C. area forecast: Wintry mix to heavy rain today, then windy tomorrow; Saturday snow?

Quite an active weather pattern we find ourselves in. The first storm moves through today with a wintry mix changing to rain, heavy at times this afternoon into evening. Tomorrow brings a gusty, blustery day. And then we repeat the pattern with a storm threatening some snow or mixed precipitation Saturday, followed by a windy Sunday.

Runaway dog from Egypt recovered at Dulles Airport

A canine refu­gee from Egypt, where he reportedly had lived on the streets, bolted shortly after arriving in the Washington area this month, but he was found on Christmas morning.

Ralphie, who was described as a German shepherd-Labrador mix, apparently used his street smarts to survive from his arrival at Dulles International Airport on Dec. 12 until he turned up in a trap set for him there.

On Christmas, Kentland firefighters are with family: One another.

Tuesday morning felt different at the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department. And it felt exactly the same.

Fitzy, the beefy 23-year-old at the morning grill, was making pork roll, scrapple and bacon instead of just one item. The big-screen TV in the main room was on as usual, but it was playing a 24-hour loop of "A Christmas Story."

Christmas with Kodi

From an array of dolls she has received the past few days, 23-month-old Kodi "Cocoa" Brown has chosen five, so far, to keep an eye on. Keep them safe. Make sure they behave.

"She calls them 'my babies,' " said RoShann Ferguson, Kodi's grandmother. "She gathers them up in her arms and won't let anybody touch them."
