Jennifer Rubin: Early voting buoys Romney
Nov 1st 2012, 15:21

There are two starkly different views of the race. President Obama's team takes refuge in public state polling and declares it can pull out a close electoral vote win. Mitt Romney's team looks at voter intensity, early voting and Romney's lead among independents and concludes he will win. If you believe Obama and state polling, the electorate will look like 2008; if you take the other view, 2012 won't resemble 2008.

The campaigns' final messages
Nov 1st 2012, 14:29

Two ads stand out today in the miasma of media soaking the target states.

Both ads show the range of options available to media consultants in 2012 to get their message out. The Obama-Powell ad is a traditional endorsement, but with a twist: My guess is that Colin Powell told the campaign to make the ad from existing footage, so what you see is essentially an edited version of his appearance on a news show when he offered his endorsement.

Jennifer Rubin: Businessman vs. liberal statist, says Romney ad
Nov 1st 2012, 14:15

In the final days of the campaign Mitt Romney is returning to his basic message: President Obama doesn't have a clue how to fix the economy but he does. The latest ad was a predictable result from Obama's inane suggestion that he appoint a secretary of business:

5 reasons a second Obama term would fail
Nov 1st 2012, 13:36

If President Obama is reelected, he would be one of the weakest presidents in recent memory. Nothing about his first term or his campaign for reelection has established a purpose for a second term. His campaign has mostly been about attacks on his opponent.  He's offered few plans that would pass Congress, and he has had to keep his ideology mostly hidden from view.  This, combined with some practical realities, would limit the president from doing any of the meaningful or difficult things that the United States requires.

Jennifer Rubin: Libya storyline still crumbling
Nov 1st 2012, 13:30

Fox News reports:

The U.S. Mission in Benghazi convened an "emergency meeting" less than a month before the assault that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, because Al Qaeda had training camps in Benghazi and the consulate could not defend against a "coordinated attack" . . . .

Greg Sargent: The Morning Plum: Chris Christie drives stake into Romney closing argument
Nov 1st 2012, 13:08

The chatter continues this morning about GOP Governor Chris Christie's astonishingly effusive praise of Obama's handling of Hurricane Sandy. After Obama and Christie toured the damage yesterday, Christie thanked Obama for their "great working relationship" and claimed Obama "sprung into action immediately." The day before, Christie praised Obama's storm response as "outstanding," adding: "He deserves my praise, and he will get it regardless of what the calendar says."

Jennifer Rubin: The 'I told ya so's' will follow
Nov 1st 2012, 12:30

This presidential race appears to be close. Really close. In such a race every decision can be second-guessed. There will be plenty of Monday-morning quarterbacking if the race comes down to a tiny percentage of voters in a few states.

Protecting nuclear plants from nature's worst
Nov 1st 2012, 12:00

As super-storm Sandy bore down on the East Coast , the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission shut down three nuclear power plants and issued an alert for the Oyster Creek plant in New Jersey. This is an important reminder that the United States has several low-lying nuclear plants on the Eastern seaboard, with minimal protection against inundation. Particularly with climate change increasing the likelihood of extreme weather, this hidden threat to public safety should be remedied.

Jennifer Rubin: Morning Bits
Nov 1st 2012, 11:45

Unusual honesty. The Denver mayor says, "We have not turned out the vote early. The suburbs and rural parts of Wisconsin — the Republican base — are voting. President Obama's base has yet to go vote. We've got to get our people to go vote." The Obama team promptly threw him under the bus.

Wrong
Nov 1st 2012, 11:32

I was Honey Boo Boo for Halloween. Why? Because I had a blond wig so I wanted to be a blond. But which blond to be??? Thor? Thor makes sense, because I have a beard, though I'm in better shape than him. Also, I was Thor last year, which is why I had the wig.
