Friendship Collegiate trounces KIPP, 51-0, in DCSAA semifinal

Quarterback Brian White threw for four touchdowns and ran for another as Friendship Collegiate routed KIPP 51-0 Saturday in the DCSAA semifinal at Anacostia.

Friendship Collegiate (7-3) advances to next week Saturday's inaugural DCSAA championship against Dunbar (9-2), which beat Anacostia 12-8 in Thursday's Turkey Bowl.

Two men shot in Pr. George's County near a Metro station

Two men were shot in Prince George's County early Friday night, according to Prince George's police.

The men were shot near Central Avenue and Soper Lane around 9:30 p.m. Friday in Seat Pleasant, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a police department spokesman. The pair ended up near the Addison Road Metro station.

Cross-country: Sean McGorty, Sophie Chase sweep Foot Locker South Regional meet

Chantilly senior Sean McGorty and Lake Braddock senior Sophie Chase won their respective races at the Foot Locker South Regional on Saturday in Charlotte, N.C., McGorty in course-record time.

McGorty, who captured the Virginia AAA title two weeks ago and is undefeated this season, overwhelmed the elite field representing 16 U.S. states and territories in much the same way he's done to local competition all season. He ran away from Josh Brickell (Ga.) and the other 132 runners before breaking the tape on the five-kilometer course at McAlpine Greenway in a personal-best 14 minutes 28 seconds.

Georgetown basketball vs. Mount St. Mary's: Hoyas pull away from Mountaineers

BLACKSBURG, Va. — It was by no means pretty, but Virginia Tech's worst season in 20 years will end with a bowl game.

After watching its offense struggle mightily for long stretches Saturday, the Hokies defense delivered a turnover in the nick of time, paving the way for a 17-14 victory over Virginia on a cold and blustery day at Lane Stadium. The win makes Virginia Tech (6-6, 4-4 ACC) bowl eligible for the 20th straight season, the third-longest streak in the nation.

Fairfax official targets smoking in the county workforce
