Quince Orchard quarterback Matt Choi turned away on the final play of Friday night's Maryland 4A semifinal against Westminster. The Owls trailed, 21-19, with 1.8 seconds remaining and were digging in for a 37-yard field goal attempt. Choi stood alone at the end of the Quince Orchard sideline, eyes closed.

Hylton football tops Colonial Forge for AAA Northwest Region Division 6 championship

When the current Hylton football players were kids, it was almost an annual event for their local high school to take home the Virginia AAA Northwest Region Division 6 championship. The Bulldogs won game after game, 39 in a row at one point.

River Hill takes care of business vs. Urbana, returns to Maryland 3A final

A nagging groin injury limited Evan Griffin to one full day of practice this week, so the River Hill senior safety spent extra time in the film room.

As he watched footage of Urbana quarterback Donovan Pannell, Griffin noticed the sophomore tended to lock his eyes onto his intended receiver before he made a throw, and Griffin took that information with him into Friday night.

House is burned, but burglary prevented

A house in a southeast Washington area where break-ins have been on the rise was the site of another sort of misfortune a few days ago when it was heavily damaged by fire. But, police said, they kept that problem from being compounded by burglary.
