D.C. area forecast: Unlike shopping, weather pretty peaceful today; Arctic chill on tap tomorrow
Nov 23rd 2012, 10:00

You have one more weather day where you can burn off those Thanksgiving calories with outdoor activities and no cold temperatures to deal with. Breezes pick up by tonight and turn into full blown Arctic winds for Saturday into early Sunday. It won't be until Monday that the atmosphere can start returning us toward more average, seasonal conditions—thanks to southerly flow ahead of a disturbance nearing us by Tuesday. Any mild air probably won't last long though.

Nov 23rd 2012, 03:56

ARLINGTON, Tex. — If he is lucky, and if he stays healthy, and if he doesn't get bored with lighting up scoreboards, Robert Griffin III will make many visits to Cowboys Stadium as the quarterback of the Washington Redskins. But he may never again match the impact of his first time, when he introduced himself to the Dallas Cowboys with an epic Thanksgiving Day performance.

Kyle Shanahan, the man behind the man, is shining again
Nov 23rd 2012, 03:52

ARLINGTON, Tex. — It sure is fun to just sit back and enjoy Robert Griffin III's weekly show. But what about the guy behind the Washington Redskins' leading man?

After two rough seasons in Washington, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is rebuilding his reputation one Griffin big play at a time. He's also part of a late-season Redskins turnaround that gained momentum after Thursday's 38-31 victory here over the Dallas Cowboys.

Redskins, Robert Griffin III stake position in NFC East
Nov 23rd 2012, 03:43

ARLINGTON, Tex. — Let's keep this in perspective. They beat a bunch of pageant beauties, a team with more dimples than substance.  Nevertheless, how often does a crowd at Cowboys Stadium chant for the Washington Redskins quarterback, while booing their own team off the field at halftime? How often does a team get a performance in a must-win game like we saw from Robert Griffin III, so predatory and timely?

Pierre Garcon looks more like the wideout Redskins need
Nov 23rd 2012, 02:35

ARLINGTON, Tex. — Wide receiver Pierre Garcon returned to the Washington Redskins' lineup Sunday. It took him a bit longer to resume his role as a major asset to the team's offense, but in the end, Garcon once more resembled the big-play wideout the Redskins desperately need in their convincing triumph here Thursday over the Dallas Cowboys.

Thanksgiving is for being with the family; the night before, for reuniting with friends
Nov 23rd 2012, 00:24

It's a holiday rooted in togetherness, a cherished opportunity to spend time with the people who matter most.

Which is precisely why Eli Hager arrives home from New York City the night before Thanksgiving, eats dinner with his family and then makes a beeline for Tommy Joe's in Bethesda, where the crowd at the bar is three-deep by 10:30 p.m., and drink orders have to be shouted over Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe."

Prince George's school board seeks superintendent to bring stability to system
Nov 23rd 2012, 00:22

Leadership in Maryland's second-largest school system has been in flux since William R. Hite Jr. abruptly left Prince George's County to take control of Philadelphia's schools over the summer.

With Hite's departure, Prince George's lost its longest-serving school superintendent. Other top-level administrators have also left in recent years, creating a leadership void atop the 123,000-student system. Now the county Board of Education is embarking on its most important task to date: finding a permanent superintendent.

WSSC reconsiders horse, fishing access at two reservoirs
Nov 22nd 2012, 21:36

As suburban Maryland's water utility considers how to reduce sediment and pollutants in its two Patuxent River reservoirs, an outside expert has concluded that decades-old horse trails should be moved farther from the water and unauthorized shoreline fishing areas should be closed.
