Refs will throw pink flags at Dolphins-Jets game

There'll be a little more pink on one NFL field this weekend, the last in Breast Cancer Awareness Month.



At MetLife Stadium, officials working the Miami Dolphins-New York Jets games will heave bright pink penalty flags rather than yellow ones. The idea came from a young fan who wrote to Commissioner Roger Goodell: "My name is Dante Cano. I am 11 years old and I am from Marlboro, New Jersey. I wanted to know if you could use my idea of pink penalty flags in October for breast cancer awareness. Please write back."

Martell Webster, Chris Singleton lead spirited win over defending champion Miami

The two dunks that got the loudest cheers during the Wizards' 101-94 win over the defending champion Miami Heat on Wednesday from fans at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., were impressive for their sheer force, but Martell Webster's two-handed alley-oop dunk and Chris Singleton's driving slam were more than just highlight worthy.

When you've seen enough games to identify a team's weaknesses, the natural inclination is to want upgrades. Midseason, though, there aren't really any available — if only it were that easy. Talking free agency and the draft when there's a game this Sunday seems a little backwards.

SAN FRANCISCO — He is perhaps the happiest of a jovial bunch of San Francisco Giants. That Pablo Sandoval pumped his right arm in the air and grinned on each of his treks around the base paths Wednesday night delighted all and surprised none. Smile, the man whom all of San Francisco calls "Panda" seems to say, because baseball is a fun, crazy game, and playing it this deep into October is to be celebrated and cherished, particularly if you make history.
