D.C. area forecast: Mainly benign weather presents the calm before Hurricane Sandy's impact

We must pay careful attention to impacts from Sandy anywhere from about late late Sunday into Tuesday. It really may get dicey, but we aren't yet completely sure which of the to most likely scenarios is likeliest. It has probably come down to either a significant impact from a storm hitting to the north, or even worse if it's closer. Stay tuned. But, in the mean time, prepare for possible issues to come during the calm before the storm.

The resistance launched by the residents who live near Tysons Corner's last green space, targeted to be paved over as part of a street in the new Tysons metropolis, will apparently convince Fairfax County to pull the reviled "Preferred Option 3" off the table, multiple sources are telling me.

D.C. to give charter schools hand with facility costs

The District will apply part of its $140 million budget surplus to charter-school facilities costs that are currently paid for with federal funds, Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D) announced Thursday.

The $7 million move will free up those federal dollars, essentially turning them over to the charter sector to use for other needs.
