In other news: Justin Timberlake's wedding video leaked, retracted
Oct 25th 2012, 22:14

•Justin Timberlake apparently has some interesting people in his circle: One pal who put together a video tribute to the star and bride Jessica Biel featuring tributes from L.A. homeless men, many semi-incoherent, screened for what we can only assume was the hilarity of guests at their multi-million dollar wedding in Italy; and another person with access to said video, who leaked it to Gawker.com. The Web site abruptly removed the video Thursday, though, after a lawyer for the amateur filmmaker, Justin Huchel, claimed the video had been stolen and threatened legal action against the site.

It's a happy rebound for the youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia and current fourth-in-line. Oct 25th 2012, 19:52

The blossoming romance between Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy — a country-pop-meets-Camelot-family union that gave us many cute pictures of the pair kissing and a super-overblown story about them crashing a wedding — has reportedly ended.

Oct 25th 2012, 18:15

Sean Penn lunching at Westend Bistro in the downtown Ritz-Carlton Thursday. Jeans, black leather jacket, sneakers, slicked back hair, slight beard and mustache. Sat with two men and a woman in what looked like a business meeting. The star apparently snuck into town for a little-publicized ceremony Wednesday at the American Red Cross, where he received its International Humanitarian Service Award for his hands-on relief work in Haiti.

See 'The Hobbit,' or just eat 'The Hobbit' at Denny's
Oct 25th 2012, 17:28

Most people find it impossible to think of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" without simultaneously thinking, "Man, I could really go for a turkey melt at Denny's."

Actually, that sentence is only true if you change the words "most people" to the "marketing staff at Denny's." Which is why, starting Nov. 6, there will be an entire "Hobbit" menu available at Denny's, as a tie-in with the upcoming Peter Jackson movie. The restaurant chain that provides a safe haven for the drunk, the hungover and those seeking meals that involve the words "grand" and "slam" announced the tie-in Wednesday in a news release that made me laugh and, also, made me kind of hungry.

Read this: Who is Jimmy Savile?
Oct 25th 2012, 16:00

Another interesting story in The Washington Post:

Who is this Jimmy Savile character you keep hearing about? An endearingly kooky British TV host — "a kind of freakish Dick Clark," as this video illustrates — who, since his death last year, is "accused of being one of Britain's most prodigious, and certainly most famous, child abusers," with more than 200 victims, report Paul Farhi and Karla Adam. (Scratch that: The number is now up to 300.) Why is this a story in the U.S.? Because the New York Times just hired the BBC exec who may or may not have been involved in spiking a Savile exposĂ©.

Axl Rose: Seven things we learned from his 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' appearance
Oct 25th 2012, 15:50

Something very unusual happened Wednesday on late-night television. Axl Rose — frontman for the original Guns N' Roses as well as the current, reconfigured version of the G N' R — appeared and did a lengthy interview on a nationally broadcast television show. This is an extremely rare event, because doing talk shows requires qualities such as as being on time. Which is not Axl's strong suit.

Oct 25th 2012, 10:00

There are some Halloween celebrations that call for a more than a skin-barring Seasame Street character. (File this under anti-sexy costume rant.)
