Nov 22nd 2012, 05:56

Jack Taylor scores 138 points, an NCAA record (Video)
Nov 21st 2012, 12:53

Jack Taylor was in a groove, a Mariana Trench kind of groove, Tuesday night.

The Grinnell College guard scored an NCAA-record 138 points in a performance that desperately cries out for a smart-alecky descriptor. (He hung a 138 burger on Faith Baptist Bible?) Anyway, Grinnell won, 179-104. Let's leave it at that.

Redskins vs. Cowboys: Who's more vulnerable?
Nov 21st 2012, 12:00

Normally by Week 12 the Redskins and Cowboys would have played already. And normally by Week 12 you've seen enough of a team to get a pretty good idea of what it is.

But in Thursday's case, I'm not totally sure we know who the Redskins are week to week, and one could easily say the same about the Cowboys. Which makes their Thanksgiving Day clash in Texas all the more intriguing, and perhaps set to go down as one of the great chapters in the rivalry's history.

Nov 21st 2012, 06:10

Opponents will continue to challenge this Maryland basketball team with zone defenses, daring the Terrapins to beat them from the outside. Alex Len will get double-teamed, sagged upon in the paint, with help-side defenders rotating down to stop backdoor cuts.

Nationals add Erik Davis, Nathan Karns to 40-man roster
Nov 21st 2012, 03:53

The Nationals added two pitchers -- reliever Erik Davis and starter Nathan Karns, both right-handers -- to the 40-man roster on Tuesday night to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. In only choosing to add only those two to the roster, the Nationals' roster stands at 38 players with two open spots forflexibility if they add players via trades or free agency -- but by doing so, the Nationals are risking leaving a handful of decent prospects available for other clubs to claim in a few weeks.

Maryland vs. Lafayette: James Padgett leads Terrapins to 83-74 win
Nov 21st 2012, 03:48

The reminders were everywhere. The newspapers, shaken and crinkled in jest by Terrapins fans during pregame introductions, proclaimed the University of Maryland's move to the Big Ten official. When university President Wallace D. Loh entered Comcast Center midway through the second half Tuesday night, chants began of "Big Ten, Big Ten." And during a promotional advertisement for the Atlantic Coast Conference on the overhead video board, one student waved goodbye.

Redskins QB Robert Griffin III looking forward to Texas homecoming
Nov 21st 2012, 01:11

When he takes the field Thursday at Cowboys Stadium for the Washington Redskins' Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Robert Griffin III expects a somewhat divided reception.

Born in Japan, but raised primarily in Texas, where he starred in both football and track at Copperas Cove High School and Baylor University, Griffin sees this game as a true homecoming. He'll play in front of a large number of family and friends, at the stadium and on televisions in homes across the state.

Wizards Coach Randy Wittman has faced more than his share of NBA challenges
Nov 21st 2012, 01:06

Randy Wittman probably feels more flummoxed than he looks these days. His Washington Wizards have been a confusing lot this season, with inconsistent play forcing him to push different buttons and, like a defective vending machine, never get the expected results.
